Two months back I lost a hamster due to a problem with her health. She was overweight and this caused all sorts of complications. Now normally during human waking hours hamsters are not very active. My hamsters tend to show their face around midnight. They do tend to run in their wheels a lot during the night. (This is why I always buy silent spinner wheels) but since I’m asleep then it is very hard to keep track of their exersise.
Some hamsters are very good at keeping their food intake in check. Others just hoover up the food as fast as they can. Especially mealworms are a favorite treat.
So to keep track of my hamsters health I built a hamster fitness tracker using an Arduino(Adafruit m0 Bluetooth LE) ,a 128×64 oled display, hall effect sensor(a1302) and some 3d printed parts.
This is the initial prototype. But I will keep working on it and eventually even add a mobile app to track my little friend’s exercise.
You can find the sourcecode and the 3d printed parts as well as the documentation on the github repository for this project.
